BURN returned back to Grahamstown National Arts Festival 2017. First thing is first, there were a lot of match sticks involved in this production. Major fire risk on stage if your brain is always thinking worst-case scenario of every situation. I could not help but wonder how much budget was allocated to the boxes of matches for this production. There was also, a high pitched yet soothing music by Daniel Geddes serving the controlled performance bodies of Mark Tatham and Daniel Geddes that seamlessly and tirelessly executed BURN. A 2016 Standard Bank Ovation Award Winner piece choreographed by Bailey Snyman described as “Humanity is the Earth’s most intimate friend; Burn explores the tense relationship between Earth and Man, and how they hold each other ransom. This is a full-length duet, strong, powerful and explosive. A fierce dance work that tests the limits of the human body.”
