Oscar Ncube, is the creative mind behind Chiefs of Angels (previously known as Drybone.co), the brand is positioned as “the rebirth of apparel”. The brand uses a leather jacket as a central departure point in all its collections, this directional and rock-and-roll inspired fashion lifestyle label is heavily influenced by sustainable fashion principles, which see it making most of its leather goods, denim and cotton apparel and accessories from deconstructing and redesigning second-hand, vintage, and dead-stock garments.
Oscar Ncube’s design process and brand ethos embodies the notion that nothing comes from nothing and making something out of ‘nothing’. The principle that guides the fashion design brand name and business is based on making do out of dont’s.
Chiefs of Angels is a cyclical fashion line that reuses and re-purposes natural fabrics such cotton, linen, and leather. This was their debut SS21 collection at SA Fashion Week this season. He describes the collection as ‘DIY 70s granny rock ‘n roll chic’.
The dichotomy between prairie gentleness and studded leather hardiness is just about the right mix to make you wonder what it is about the collection offering, you love and ready to pull it off, even though you thought ‘this is not exactly my style.”
